It was called Baby-lax when my first was newborn. Now (my fourth child) it is Pedia-lax. I still used it on my babies 3 mo and on. They each suffered from constipation, even as infants. This (or a similar product) was prescribed to us when we lived in Switzerland. It was wonderful for those heartbreaking baby constipation nights. Even breast feeding babies get constipated! Even when I gave up cow-dairy and increased my pro-biotic and complex carb intake. This product produces a stool quickly. However! Please us sparingly as your baby may indeed have a more serious problem that the pediatrician needs to evaluate. Also, more than one application (as I was forewarned, but have never attempted) at a time can cause painful 'false' stools (like dry-heaves, in the other way). So, use with caution. And notice that some of the glycerine will be left in the applicator after use. 1 of 1 people found the following review helpful: Amazon Verified Purchase This review is from: Pedia-Lax Children's Liquid Glycerin Suppositories, 6-Count Boxes (Pack of 3) (Health and Beauty) My son has had trouble with intentionally holding in his stools ever since he started solids. He would go days, up to a week, without stooling. His pain was visibly worsening every day he hadn't passed a stool. After trying every type of laxative you can for babies (prune juice, feeding only laxative like foods, miralax in everything, massage, hot baths, flax seed oil, etc) his constipation continued. We had a barium enema and anorectal manometry test done, and the conclusion was that anytime he felt pressure to go #2, he would squeeze up the external sphincter and not let it out. So softening the poo (miralax, prunes) and oiling it up (flax seed oil), both did not fix the problem. The problem was needing a stimulant to make those muscles move and get the poop out. Pedialax does just this. My son can eat any type of food all day, and I try and give him one of these any day in which he has not gone #2 by evening. This has made him much more active and in a happier mood all... Read more |
